CMJ Starts Today in NYC!
It’s that time of year again in NYC when music elitists, nerds and fans all converge to check out the newest sampling of upcoming bands at CMJ. For those of you unfamiliar, CMJ is a four-day music marathon hosted by the College Music Journal (a.k.a. CMJ) showcasing nearly 900 various artists from around the world. You like hip-hop? CMJ has it. You like alternative? CMJ has it. You like indie? Yeah, CMJ has that too. What about dubstep? You guessed it – it’s there at CMJ. You can find the total line up here and the four-day schedule here (Oct 18-22).
With so many musicians, genres and shows to choose from at CMJ, Jaimen and I pulled together a Spotify playlist with some of the bands we think are “can’t miss” this week at CMJ. This list includes acts like Active Child, Forest Fire, Free Energy, An Horse, Kill the Noise, Little Dragon and (one of our personal favorites) Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. Check out the playlist here (you better subscribe to it!): http://open.spotify.com/user/bwgohn/playlist/2II3CMeerCJK4LIaUcPRgm
The best way to attack this monster show is plan ahead and build a schedule for the shows you want to see. If you’re the iPhone-type, you can even download the CMJ 2011 app to build a schedule on your phone. Oh, and if music isn’t your thing, CMJ has film exhibits and some panels you can check out as well.
- Bob & Jaimen
P.S. Fun Fact: Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. played like 14 shows last year at CMJ. Yeah, that’s how crazy these four days can be.
